My family’s history

National Socialism left its mark on nearly every family in Germany. Yet even the parents and grandparents of today’s youth often know little about this history. Many believe their ancestors were victims of the Nazi regime or, at the very least, that they were not perpetrators.

What people experienced and did in World War II can still affect their children and grandchildren as these experiences were often never actively processed. They were simply passed on to the next generation unconsciously.

How important is it to know your family’s history?

What do I know about my family’s history and how did I learn this?
