Sad certainty

Shortly before the war ended, the SS hanged 20 children in a former school building at Bullenhuser Damm in Hamburg – a subcamp of Neuengamme concentration camp. The SS wanted to cover up their use of humans as test subjects in experiments.

Some of the perpetrators were sentenced to death by a British military court and executed. One of the victims was seven-year-old Sergio Simone. His cousin Tatiana described her family’s anguish.
