Starting over with a family

Charlotte Neuland married Samuel Knobloch, a survivor of the Holocaust, in 1951. They had three children. The couple decided to stay in Germany with its fledgling democracy. Life was not easy. Most of the survivors were traumatised and tried to conceal their Jewish identity. Few people in Germany wanted to hear about their suffering. Many Nazi perpetrators had returned to their professions and were integrated into society.
