A dusty postcard

Long after their grandfather’s death, the grandchildren discovered a postcard in their parents’ house. It depicted a police station in Bialystok, Poland, and was postmarked July 1943. Just one month later, the Jewish ghetto there was dissolved and thousands of residents were murdered. The grandchildren made the connection: as a police radio operator, their grandfather would have known about this and may have even been involved in the operation. Yet, they wanted to know with certainty that this was the case.
