At the age of 16, Hans Stark (1921-1991) joined the SS and became a member of the concentration camp staff. He worked at several different camps while still attending school. He went into hiding for a time after the war. Later he studied agriculture. In 1959 he was working as a teacher when he was arrested for crimes committed in Auschwitz. In testimony, survivors described him as a cruel sadist. Because he was subject to juvenile criminal law, he was only sentenced to ten years in prison.
