An irrepressible will to live

Rosa Zeidler* (1920 – 2009) was a role model to her great-granddaughter. Rosa had been teased as a child because her father was Thai. At 19, she was forcibly sterilised for ‘racial reasons’. She was then imprisoned in a forced labour camp at 21 and raped several times by Germans. Despite these terrible experiences, Rosa built a new life after 1945 and was even able to have children later in life. Her religion gave her the courage to face life’s adversities and she passed this strength on to her descendants – over many generations.
