Crossing the lines of hatred

The pogrom in Rostock was followed by more violence throughout Germany. Skinheads attacked hostels for asylum seekers with stones, incendiary devices and firearms, or assaulted people who looked foreign on the street. The perpetrators were mostly young, male and right-wing extremists. In 1992 alone, over 2,200 such incidents were recorded and more than 30 people died.
