Karl Hoffmann, age 21, died while serving as a soldier on the Eastern Front in 1944.
His mother, Margarete, never stopping grieving the loss of her son. In the
family photo album, she collected everything that reminded her of her only
child: photos, children’s drawings, postcards and newspaper clippings. In 1982,
she donated the album to the School History Collection at the University of
Erlangen in Nuremberg.
