Living history

Contemporary witnesses were finally being heard: in the 1980s, more and more older people who had lived through the Nazi terror were being asked about their experiences. Teachers often invited survivors to speak with school classes. The victims were not the only ones given a chance to speak. An exhibition about the Wehrmacht, which toured many cities in 1997, attracted much attention. It showed the crimes committed by the German Wehrmacht, i.e. by ‘ordinary’ soldiers, during World War II.
