After the TV series Holocaust (1979) was broadcast, 77 per cent of viewers said they discussed it with their family or other people, according to a survey. The need to discuss it was especially high (86 per cent) among the postwar generation. Some of the questions they asked were: What did our family do during the Nazi era? What did they know about the murder of Jews? Did they help neighbouring Jewish families or were they complicit?
