Nico Rost


The Dutch writer Nico Rost (1896 – 1967) was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 and imprisoned in Dachau concentration camp in the last year of the war. After the war, Rost, a staunch communist, lived in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and published Goethe in Dachau – a book about his experiences in the camp. He worked for ten years with the International Dachau Committee to have a concentration camp memorial established in Dachau.
