Painful memory

The sisters, Andra and Tatiana Bucci, were deported from northern Italy to Auschwitz with their cousin Sergio in 1944. The sisters, who were used in human experiments conducted by the SS doctor Josef Mengele, survived. Seven-year-old Sergio was deported to Hamburg, where he was murdered on 20 April 1945. The two women have struggled for decades to have the Jewish children from Bullenhuser Damm officially commemorated.
