In 1982, 18-year-old Gerd Vanselow published his research paper as a book and won 5th place in a nationwide school history competition.
In the book’s preface, written by Bernd Engelmann (1921 – 1994), the prominent author noted: ‘This is exactly what we had hoped for, we, the prisoners of the Hersbruck camp: that our many dead and we, the few survivors, would not be forgotten.’
