The violent attacks in the 1990s were part of a wider development of right-wing extremist, anti-Semitic and racist activities and crimes that began in 1945 and have continued to the present day.
Compiling reliable data on this is difficult because Germany only began systematically recording right-wing violence across federal states in 2000. In particular, from 1949 to 1990, deaths caused by right-wing extremist violence were not recorded separately from other murders in Germany.
